Months ago I had reached my limit with my hair and just wanted to chop it all off. I know you can all relate to this at some point in your life. I had to wash my hair daily because of the oils it was producing and I had no idea that by doing that i was just making my problems worse. I put out a SOS on my Instagram asking for some dry shampoo ideas. You see, I had tried tons of dry shampoo, either i couldn’t justify the cost, it left my hair looking and feeling horrible, or it was just loaded with harsh chemicals(which are no longer a part of my life). I was shocked by how many people reached out with DIY recipes. A lot of the recipes were similar, so I have tweaked mine to finally hit that sweet spot for me.
Making your own homemade dry shampoo is a wonderful way to save money on beauty products while also saving your scalp from harsh chemicals.
I used a mix of arrowroot powder, which is light and absorbent, baking soda, and unsweetened cocoa powder.
- 1. T Baking Sodaa
- 1. T Arrowroot Powder ( Corn Starch is another substitute)
- add Natural Unsweetened Cocoa to match hair color (Optional)
*I use this daily, so i make it in larger batches. my personal recipe is 1/4c. of each ingredient.
Simply use any soft powder brush to apply. Lightly dip the end of the brush into the powder and tap off any extra then dab it all the way around the hairline that you know will show that day—think about your part line and hairline all the way around your head-don’t forget the back!
You can then brush it into your hair or just let it be. Try both ways and see which is best for you. You can then brush it into your hair or just let it be. Try both ways and see which is best for you.
